John Fahsanu's Daughter, Amal Speaks On The Divorce Drama

Football legend John Fashanu's daughter, Amal Fashanu, has gotten involved in the divorce drama between her dad and his estranged wife, Abigail Igwe. Defending her dad and slamming Abigail ahead of their divorce hearing tomorrow June 1st, Amal called her step-mum a 'black widow' who had her dad under her spell and physically abused him.

In an interview with UK Mirror, Amal said her father suffered many domestic abuses from Abigail

“She has been dubbed the black widow back home in Nigeria and it is spot on. He was enchanted. While they were together I went from seeing my dad once a month to once a year. He vanished from his children’s lives. When I called to find out how he was and asked him to fly to London to see me, he would just say he couldn’t talk. I could sense Abigail was in the background, controlling him. He has always had that tough-guy image but it was as though she brainwashed him. I know he suffered domestic abuse.

Dad told me she attacked him more than six times, even though he only reported it three times to the police. One attack was with a sword. Another was with a glass. He also told me she’d fritter away £2,500 ‘play money’ he gave her, then ask for more. He was stupid and senseless but he feels huge regret now and is finally happy and free of her.”

Amal who says her father has never stayed long with a woman, blamed his actions on his parents getting divorced when he was much younger. Fashanu was with Amal’s mother, Spanish model Marisol Acuna Duenas, for nine years. He then married another model, Melissa Kassa-Mapsi. They divorced in 2004 after having two sons, Amir and Akim, and daughter Alana.

"Our situation has always been unusual. I call us a modern family because from a very early age I have never known Dad to stay with one woman for too long. Maybe it is because his parents split when he was young. Maybe it is because women are his weakness. He loves their company – the affection, the touching, the cooking.”

She also spoke on the first time she met Abigail after her dad married her

"As soon as Dad walked through the door with her I knew something was wrong. He had this big lump under his left eye. It looked bruised, like he had been struck, and there was a scar I could clearly make out. I knew I couldn’t ask him about it with her in the room. He seemed on edge. Abigail seemed very reserved and kept me at arm’s length. I couldn’t see what Dad saw in her. She claims she is 48 but Dad told me she is actually several years older than him. He has stunning women of my age throwing themselves at him, yet he went for her. It was only after I heard they were splitting that he told me the truth about his eye. He said she came at him from behind with a glass and cut him after becoming increasingly jealous. He told me, ‘She was convinced I had been having an affair. All she can think is that I am sleeping with another woman – and it is not true. He would never raise a hand to her though. He is too respectful of women to ever harm them.”

Amal claims her father never cheated on Abigail

"I haven’t asked my dad about those rumours, because I honestly don’t want to know. I am traditional and a Catholic. Abigail was obviously good fun in the bedroom, because I can’t think what else she had going for her. But I also know that footballers do those things. He also doesn’t need to sleep with his maid, as Abigail has claimed. He could sleep with anyone, so what on earth would he do that for? It simply isn’t true. He has said Abigail was always around women, though. She has asked him to retract comments that she is a lesbian because she wants to be a pastor.”

The divorce case between
Igwe and John Fashanu comes up tomorrow Monday June 1st. Abigail is allegedly asking for 50,000 million pounds divorce settlement.

John Fashanu And Ex-Wife's Fight Gets More Messy, Gets Police Involved

Hmm, wahala dey! According to some new story I just received from an insider, the marriage saga between John Fashanu and Abigail Igwe has taken another dimension. John's embattled ex-wife, Abigail yesterday stepped up the game with a move to get the popular sports Ambassador arrested over fabricated issues relating to football fraud and possession of gun.

In my source's words:

Laila, according to a petition written to the police by the 'black widow', it states that John Fashanu is in possession of an unlicensed gun and has also plotted moves to send footballers abroad without passports. The petition which was an obvious antic to implicate Fash is not only misleading but a cheap move to blackmail the sports icon.

I spoke with the Head of Media to John Fashanu, Mr Micheal Success and he said:

"This is another frustrated trick by Abigail, my boss ex-wife to bring him down. Yes Fashanu was invited to the Central police station based on the petition but he was able to clear the air. It's true the company has a licensed gun for protection over attacks like this from a frustrated woman."

Michael added that the case of sending footballers abroad without passport is unfounded and unspeakable. He further lamented the unforeseen dangers and threats from the embattled ex- wife of Fashanu towards the Ambassador, as the desperation to bring Fashanu down is indeed shocking.

The family and relations of Fashanu have expressed concerned  over the safety of their son based on the unrelenting move of the ex- wife to drag his name to the mud.

“Fashanu is known all over the world and his positive antecedents in sports development in Africa speak volume of his personality, I won't be surprised if Abigail accuses him of kidnapping soon because an old woman is never old when it comes to the music she knows how to dance very well", Micheal Success said.

CBN Bank Officials Defraud Nigeria Of 8Billion Naira

According to the anti-graft agency, top officials of the Nigeria Central Bank, CBN, colluded with officials of private banks to defraud the country of about N8 billion. The scam involved the “theft and recirculation of defaced and mutilated currencies. The officials are set to be arraigned on Tuesday.

Read the EFCC statement below:

EFCC To Arraign Six CBN Big Wigs, 16 Others for N8billion Currency Fraud June 2

The Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC has concluded arrangement to arraign in court, five top executives of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, implicated in a mega scam involving the theft and recirculation of defaced and mutilated currencies.

The suspects drawn from various business units of the apex bank are to be docked by the anti-graft agency before a Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State, from Tuesday
June 2, 2015 to Thursday June 4, 2015.

They include Patience Okoro Eye( Abuja) , Afolabi Olufemi( Lagos), Kolawole Babalola (Ibadan), Olaniran Muniru Adeola (Ibadan), Fatai Yusuf, Adekunle (Head, Security, CBN, (Ibadan) and Ilori Adekunle Sunday,(Akure).

The remaining sixteen suspects are drawn from various commercial banks who were found to have conspired with the CBN executives to swing the heist.

All the suspects who are currently in the custody of the EFCC are now ruing the day they literally allowed greed and craze for materialism to be loud their sense of judgement and responsibility, when they elected to help themselves to tones of defaced Naira notes. Instead of carrying out the statutory instruction to destroy the currency, they substituted it with newspapers neatly cut to Naira sizes and proceeded to recycle the defaced and mutilated currency.

The fraud is partly to blame for the failure of government monetary policy over the years as currency mop up exercises by the apex bank failed to check the inflationary pressure on the economy.

The lid on the scam which is widely suspected to have gone on unchecked for years, was blown on November 3, 2014 via a petition to the EFCC alleging that over N6, 575, 549, 370.00( Six Billion, Five Hundred and Seventy-Five Million, Five-Hundred and Forty-Nine Thousand, Three Hundred and Seventy Naira) was cornered and discreetly recycled by light manipulated top executives of the CBN at the Ibadan branch.

The suspects, who were members of the Briquetting Panel, plotted their way to infamy on September 8, 2014, while carrying out a Briquetting exercise at the CBN Branch, Ibadan.

In banking parlance, Briquetting is disintegration and destruction of counted and audited dirty notes. By this practice, depositor banks usually take mutilated notes to the CBN in exchange for fresh notes equivalent of the amount deposited.

The depositor banks in this instance are Zenith Bank, FCMB, Wema Bank, Access Bank, First Bank, Skye Bank, Ecobank and Sterling Bank.

But while carrying out the assignment, the team were alleged to have found one of the currency boxes filled only with old newspapers rather than 20 bundles of N1000 notes.
A similar case, according to investigation, had been discovered on September 22, 2014 when a box that was supposed to contain N500 notes to the tune of N5billion was filled with old newspapers.

Unlike in the past, this fraud could not be swept under the carpet, as a member of the Panel from the Osogbo branch blew the lid on the illicit deal. In a statement, the informant stated that the exercise was designed to last between August 4 and 8, 2014.
The 35-year-old, however, stated that she discovered a strange ‘sight’ while opening the third box on the second day of the exercise. It was a discovery that beat her ken.

She added that she confronted the other members of the panel, including Eye, Head, Briquetting Panel; Treasury Assistant; Coordinator and Head, Security, CBN, Ibadan, who all assured her that they would look into it. But she later found out that it was all a ruse. She said she later found out that Eye not only maintained sealed lips over the matter but omitted it from her report.

A five-count charge awaits the suspects as they prepare to face the wrath of the law.

Fayose Hails President Buhari's Inaugural Address

The Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, has hailed president Buhari's inaugural speech. According to the statement issued by the governor’s Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, the governor said

“the content of the President’s speech showed a man who is desirous of making a success of his administration. Nigerians, including those who voted and did not vote for President Buhari were eagerly waiting for his inaugural speech.

The speech, if followed in practice, shows that he is ready to govern Nigeria and it is a sign that the president is ready to live above board and lead a government that accommodates all.

“It is my prayer that the Almighty Allah will grant our president the courage and wherewithal to make a success of his administration and further deepen democratic governance, especially in a confederation like Nigeria, by sustaining rule of law,”

He also hailed the immediate past president, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, describing him as a good democrat.

“With what Dr. Goodluck Jonathan did, history will never forget him as the man who laid an enduring foundation for democracy in Nigeria.”

He said Friday’s event midwifed by Dr. Jonathan and President Buhari proved to the whole world that the black people of Africa were capable of piloting their own affairs.

Fashola's Tenure Is A Complete Failure -- PDP

The Lagos chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has described the performance of former Governor of Lagos, Babatunde Fashola, as dismal and largely based on propaganda.

In a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Mr. Taofik Gani, the party stated that it did not expect Ambode to act differently in terms of running his administration based on propaganda.

Gani said,

“While we hope the best for Lagos State, it is our objective projection that Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode may not depart from the propagandist government now institutionalised in the state by Governor Fashola. It is, however, our wish that the state prospers and so we admonish Ambode to get close to God and jettison ‘godfatherism’ in order to make any appreciable success. By upholding this tenet, Mr. Ambode will implement policies for the people and not continue in the manner that (suggests) the state economy is in the hands of a godfather.

“With monthly internally generated revenue of at least N27bn, no governor should fail in Lagos state. But former Governor Fashola left office leaving the state with the highest local and international debt profile in the federation. The former governor failed because of his over-dependence on a godfather and his own self-believe.”

According to the Lagos PDP, there are many projects and policies abandoned by the Fashola administration.

“Such include, lack of affordable low-cost housing, balkanised civil service with no minimum wage, unresolved Lagos State University crisis, economic and human rights violations. Others are shortage of road networks, hostile business environment, inability to bring down cost of living in the state, poor primary and secondary education standard, to mention a few,”

The party expressed confidence that through the ongoing governorship tribunal, its candidate, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, might be declared the winner of the April 11, 2015 poll.

In a text message sent to our correspondent in response to PDP’s assessment of Fashola’s tenure, Hakeem Bello said,

“It’s ironic that the PDP, a party that failed woefully at the national level could issue such a statement.”

Responding through a text message, the Lagos All Progressives Congress Publicity Secretary, Mr. Joe Igbokwe, said that the party should not be taken seriously.

“Are you still listening to that dead party? Please stop wasting your precious gift of time on this totally irredeemable party that destroyed Nigeria. Did PDP in Abuja accomplish half of what Fashola accomplished in Lagos given the resources at their disposal? PDP Lagos should shut up forever in Nigeria. They gang- raped Nigeria for 16 years and posterity will never forgive them,” Igbokwe told Saturday PUNCH.

“I Was Worried I Would Be Booed,” Jonathan Admits As He Returns Home

SaharaReporters citizen journalists were on the scene as former President Goodluck Jonathan arrived in Yenagoa, the capital city of his home State of Bayelsa.

The former president publically announced that he wished to settle in his hometown Otuoke in Bayelsa State a few days ago.

Mr. Jonathan was met by a jubilant crowd of supporters, from across the six States of the Niger Delta region. The former president was accompanied by his wife, Patience Jonathan, despite previous reports that the Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan were quarrelling because she expressed little interest in returning to Bayelsa State.

Mr. Jonathan was also accompanied by Ondo State Governor Olusegun Mimiko, the Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson, along with other dignitaries.

Former President Jonathan told the crowd that he was short of words to express his feelings. He also added that thought he would be booed and cursed at by the people for some decisions he made, and the lack of development in Bayelsa State.

He told that crowd that, “because you are exposed to the high office, and the thought that you may not have satisfied the people, sometimes you think they will curse you or boo you. But instead, the people have decided to celebrate me."

The former president acknowledged the role played by some political leaders in the State for his emergence as a politician. He said he had wondered that if he had stayed in Bayelsa, he would have done better as a Governor, "but I left to allow others grow politically."

Mr. Jonathan announced his plans after leaving office, and said that, "Nigerians have given me so much and the only thing I can do with the rest of my life is to dedicate myself to peace building. We need peace and development. Political crises don't bring development. I believe the new administration will work with everybody. I am happy the new President said he does not belong to any clique."

The Bayelsa State Governor Dickson said that, "we are grateful to the Party and the political class for giving Jonathan opportunity to serve, and such service he did well. He is our celebrated leader and hero of democracy."

He added that, “those people who Bayelsa and Ijaw Nation is down. Don't laugh yet. We may be down and not out.”

After a brief reception in Yenagoa, Mr. Jonathan will retire back to his hometown in Otuoke.

Governor El-Rufai Stoned by Protesters During Inauguration

Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s gubernatorial inauguration in Kaduna State ended suddenly on Friday, after angry youth threw stones, water satchels, and any other materials in their reach at him and his procession. Also present in the procession were the Emir of Zaria, Shehu Idris, and the State Chief Judge Taminu Zailani.

Amid the chaos, the Senator-elect Shehu Sani stuffed the Chief Judge Zailani into his car and fled to her nearby home.

The youth were complaining about their fear that resources were being plundered from the State. They accused the leaders of colluding with the outgoing Governor, Mukhtar Ramallan Yero to steal reserves from the State.

The mob were also calling for the dethronement of the Emir who had to be evacuated by his own palace guards during the chaos.

Security agents had to fire tear gas into the crowd at the Murtala Square in Kaduna in order to disperse the raucous crowd.

There have been no reports of injuries from the angry protesting. Governor El-Rufai was, however, unable to complete the remainder of the scheduled public activities for the day which included a parade from Murtala Square.

Sepp Blatter Re- Elected For The Fifth Time

FIFA President Sepp Blatter, has won his bid for re-election in a vote that has been overshadowed by the arrest of top FIFA officials accused of corruption.

Blatter's opponent, Prince Ali bin al-Hussein of Jordan, pulled his name out of the election after the first round of voting. Blatter fell seven votes short of the two-thirds majority needed to win the election in the first round.

FIFA elections took place just as an international scandal burst open, with seven top FIFA officials were arrested in Switzerland on Wednesday as part of a US prosecution that indicted 14 people.

Blatter, 79, has been facing significant pressure to resign, including from the UK Prime Minister David Cameron who said in Berlin that “the sooner he quits the better.”

Blatter maintained the legitimacy of his Presidency, when addressing his win he thanked all those who voted for him and his rival, Prince Ali.

Mr Blatter said: "I am not perfect, nobody is perfect, but we will do a good job together I am sure."

He also stated that this, his fifth term as President could be his last, saying: "At the end of my term I will give up FIFA in a strong position."

Oby Ezekwesili Steps In

The former Minister of Education and convener of the Bringbackourgirls group, Oby Ezekwesili has helped the newly sworn-in president clarify one of the statements he made today, that Nigerians have jokingly taken to mean something else. The president today during his inaugural speech had said ‘I belong to everybody and I belong to nobody’, but so many Nigerians online have been creating memes of it and attributing it also to husband and wives in marriage. Some of them even went as far as making memes saying the first lady has just been chilling and looking at the president. But Mrs Ezekwesili deemed it fit to intervene and tell them it does not apply in a marriage. Her tweet:

It looks like the cover will roll out just about the same time as Bruce's docuseries, chronicling his transition from man to woman.

Buhari and The New Nigeria By Etcetera

I wasn’t born in 1960. So, I have no memories of the euphoria of the first Independence Day. My early memories of independence are the celebrations in the small government school I attended. My well starched and ironed school uniform, national flags made of paper, singing the National Anthem, and a speech by the headmistress were the highlights. In my final year, I was allowed to pin a small flag on my shirt and hold a slightly bigger one in front of the school because I was a school prefect. Those were proud moments! Even after so many years, the pride still remains. It is totally different today.

Back then, it was more about Nigeria, our country! There was nationalism all around. Even as young kids, there was unflinching commitment to the country. Reading Chinua Achebe and Cyprian Ekwensi was a passion. I was told so many times by my father that the first few images of post-independent Nigeria weren’t of food shortages, poverty, hunger, inadequacy of almost everything. There was hope!

Where are we after 55 years, and where do we intend to go? As I listened to Buhari’s speech yesterday, I felt sorry for Nigeria. How did we get here? Everything in Nigeria has changed and, in many ways, changed for the worst. We still see poverty everywhere we turn. We are still worried whether the next ship will bring enough food. We are a country floating on crude oil yet we wake up every morning to fuel scarcity, wondering whether we have enough money in our pockets to buy fuel for our generators and cars for the next day. Although our choice of cars is no longer limited to the Peugeot 504 and the Tortoise cars our parents cruised in the 60s, and we may not live in a black and white TV era with just one channel anymore, and there are no more long queues at telephone booths, does that give us comfort? Have we progressed? No. We still have to solve our more complex problems to move forward and we are impatient. We are still looking to developed countries for aid or to the World Bank for more loans. We are still not confident enough or ready to take on the world.

What are the things Buhari needs to do and urgently too?

1: Contain divisive forces and actions. We seem to divide ourselves in the name of tribe, region, religion, group, sub-group, constituencies, and we never unite in times of crisis. There are a number of external forces which may not want Nigeria to become developed and powerful. These forces are creating difficulties both inside and outside the country. They predicted our disintegration in 2015 and they almost made sure it happened. We must differentiate our enemies from our allies. It is also very important that, as a multi-cultural society, we learn to live and grow together and to resolve our differences through dialogue within ourselves and not external influences. Any form of violence, for any reason whatsoever, should be avoided. Instead of expecting the government to solve all our problems, let the civil society take its role seriously and do its bit. The large majority of Nigerians want to get on with their lives in peace. This majority needs to assert its presence.

2: Release the energy of Nigeria’s youth to generate growth and prosperity. Take a look at any young man or woman in Nigeria today, you are sure to find that unusual level of confidence, a confidence to take up a challenge to better the best in any part of the world they find themselves. They are willing to work extra hours, learn new things, and innovate. It is this confidence and the attitude of “Naija no dey carry last” that is Nigeria’s most valuable capital today. We need to support this with the best quality education, infrastructure and training and research facilities, be it in the private or public sector. Nigerian youths shouldn’t be entangled with issues of language or religion. They should be focused on their careers and their growth, which will in turn be Nigeria’s growth.

3: Get the infrastructure right. Young Nigerians are becoming impatient, and rightly so. They want to get going. Inadequate infrastructure, whether it is physical or social, is holding them back. Roads, power, basic services like water and sanitation, social infrastructure like healthcare, education need urgent attention if we want this country to grow. Many of these could come through private sector investment, innovation and efficiencies. The government will still play a major role both in terms of providing funds, encouraging investments and ensuring regulation. Instead of focusing on irrelevant issues, we need to focus on quality and cost of services.

4: Fight inefficiency and corruption. We are all worried about corruption. But when it comes to standing up against corruption, we have failed. Buhari must deter Nigerians from further engaging in corrupt practices by making scapegoats. He has to start by appointing only credible people into his cabinet. They must be discouraged from looting the treasury. If you ask me, I will suggest that Goodluck Jonathan’s government should be probed and those found guilty of corrupt practices should be sent to Kirikiri. All forms of corruption are bad, but it is only the bigger cases that we pay attention to, forgetting that the petty corruption is just as cancerous. It affects the poor more and makes life miserable for the average Nigerian. The civil society needs to stand up and force the change we have all been clamouring for. Luckily, we now have the Freedom of Information Bill which is an effective tool in the hands of the Nigerian citizen to ensure transparency. If Aba manufacturers are empowered, we do not need technology from outside, we just need the will to change age-old and opaque processes. Society needs to make its demand for this change loud and clear.

President Muhammadu Buhari’s Inaugural Speech On May 29 2015

I am immensely grateful to God Who Has preserved us to witness this day and this occasion. Today marks a triumph for Nigeria and an occasion to celebrate her freedom and cherish her democracy. Nigerians have shown their commitment to democracy and are determined to entrench its culture. Our journey has not been easy but thanks to the determination of our people and strong support from friends abroad we have today a truly democratically elected government in place.

I would like to thank President Goodluck Jonathan for his display of statesmanship in setting a precedent for us that has now made our people proud to be Nigerians wherever they are. With the support and cooperation he has given to the transition process, he has made it possible for us to show the world that despite the perceived tension in the land we can be a united people capable of doing what is right for our nation. Together we co-operated to surprise the world that had come to expect only the worst from Nigeria. I hope this act of graciously accepting defeat by the outgoing President will become the standard of political conduct in the country.

I would like to thank the millions of our supporters who believed in us even when the cause seemed hopeless. I salute their resolve in waiting long hours in rain and hot sunshine to register and cast their votes and stay all night if necessary to protect and ensure their votes count and were counted. I thank those who tirelessly carried the campaign on the social media. At the same time, I thank our other countrymen and women who did not vote for us but contributed to make our democratic culture truly competitive, strong and definitive.

I thank all of you.

Having just a few minutes ago sworn on the Holy Book, I intend to keep my oath and serve as President to all Nigerians.
I belong to everybody and I belong to nobody.

A few people have privately voiced fears that on coming back to office I shall go after them. These fears are groundless. There will be no paying off old scores. The past is prologue.

Our neighbours in the Sub-region and our African brethren should rest assured that Nigeria under our administration will be ready to play any leadership role that Africa expects of it. Here I would like to thank the governments and people of Cameroon, Chad and Niger for committing their armed forces to fight Boko Haram in Nigeria.

I also wish to assure the wider international community of our readiness to cooperate and help to combat threats of cross-border terrorism, sea piracy, refugees and boat people, financial crime, cyber crime, climate change, the spread of communicable diseases and other challenges of the 21st century.

At home we face enormous challenges. Insecurity, pervasive corruption, the hitherto unending and seemingly impossible fuel and power shortages are the immediate concerns. We are going to tackle them head on. Nigerians will not regret that they have entrusted national responsibility to us. We must not succumb to hopelessness and defeatism. We can fix our problems.

In recent times Nigerian leaders appear to have misread our mission. Our founding fathers, Mr Herbert Macauley, Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Alhaji Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna of Sokoto, Alhaji Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Malam Aminu Kano, Chief J.S. Tarka, Mr Eyo Ita, Chief Denis Osadeby, Chief Ladoke Akintola and their colleagues worked to establish certain standards of governance. They might have differed in their methods or tactics or details, but they were united in establishing a viable and progressive country. Some of their successors behaved like spoilt children breaking everything and bringing disorder to the house.

Furthermore, we as Nigerians must remind ourselves that we are heirs to great civilizations: Shehu Othman Dan fodio’s caliphate, the Kanem Borno Empire, the Oyo Empire, the Benin Empire and King Jaja’s formidable domain. The blood of those great ancestors flow in our veins. What is now required is to build on these legacies, to modernize and uplift Nigeria.

Daunting as the task may be it is by no means insurmountable. There is now a national consensus that our chosen route to national development is democracy. To achieve our objectives we must consciously work the democratic system. The Federal Executive under my watch will not seek to encroach on the duties and functions of the Legislative and Judicial arms of government. The law enforcing authorities will be charged to operate within the Constitution. We shall rebuild and reform the public service to become more effective and more serviceable. We shall charge them to apply themselves with integrity to stabilize the system.

For their part the legislative arm must keep to their brief of making laws, carrying out over-sight functions and doing so expeditiously. The judicial system needs reform to cleanse itself from its immediate past. The country now expects the judiciary to act with dispatch on all cases especially on corruption, serious financial crimes or abuse of office. It is only when the three arms act constitutionally that government will be enabled to serve the country optimally and avoid the confusion all too often bedeviling governance today.

Elsewhere relations between Abuja and the States have to be clarified if we are to serve the country better. Constitutionally there are limits to powers of each of the three tiers of government but that should not mean the Federal Government should fold its arms and close its eyes to what is going on in the states and local governments. Not least the operations of the Local Government Joint Account. While the Federal Government can not interfere in the details of its operations it will ensure that the gross corruption at the local level is checked. As far as the constitution allows me I will try to ensure that there is responsible and accountable governance at all levels of government in the country. For I will not have kept my own trust with the Nigerian people if I allow others abuse theirs under my watch.

However, no matter how well organized the governments of the federation are they can not succeed without the support, understanding and cooperation of labour unions, organized private sector, the press and civil society organizations. I appeal to employers and workers alike to unite in raising productivity so that everybody will have the opportunity to share in increased prosperity. The Nigerian press is the most vibrant in Africa. My appeal to the media today – and this includes the social media – is to exercise its considerable powers with responsibility and patriotism.

My appeal for unity is predicated on the seriousness of the legacy we are getting into. With depleted foreign reserves, falling oil prices, leakages and debts the Nigerian economy is in deep trouble and will require careful management to bring it round and to tackle the immediate challenges confronting us, namely; Boko Haram, the Niger Delta situation, the power shortages and unemployment especially among young people. For the longer term we have to improve the standards of our education. We have to look at the whole field of medicare. We have to upgrade our dilapidated physical infrastructure.

The most immediate is Boko Haram’s insurgency. Progress has been made in recent weeks by our security forces but victory can not be achieved by basing the Command and Control Centre in Abuja. The command centre will be relocated to Maiduguri and remain until Boko Haram is completely subdued. But we can not claim to have defeated Boko Haram without rescuing the Chibok girls and all other innocent persons held hostage by insurgents.
This government will do all it can to rescue them alive. Boko Haram is a typical example of small fires causing large fires. An eccentric and unorthodox preacher with a tiny following was given posthumous fame and following by his extra judicial murder at the hands of the police. Since then through official bungling, negligence, complacency or collusion Boko Haram became a terrifying force taking tens of thousands of lives and capturing several towns and villages covering swathes of Nigerian sovereign territory.

Boko Haram is a mindless, godless group who are as far away from Islam as one can think of. At the end of the hostilities when the group is subdued the Government intends to commission a sociological study to determine its origins, remote and immediate causes of the movement, its sponsors, the international connections to ensure that measures are taken to prevent a recurrence of this evil. For now the Armed Forces will be fully charged with prosecuting the fight against Boko haram. We shall overhaul the rules of engagement to avoid human rights violations in operations. We shall improve operational and legal mechanisms so that disciplinary steps are taken against proven human right violations by the Armed Forces.

Boko Haram is not only the security issue bedeviling our country. The spate of kidnappings, armed robberies, herdsmen/farmers clashes, cattle rustlings all help to add to the general air of insecurity in our land. We are going to erect and maintain an efficient, disciplined people – friendly and well – compensated security forces within an over – all security architecture.
The amnesty programme in the Niger Delta is due to end in December, but the Government intends to invest heavily in the projects, and programmes currently in place. I call on the leadership and people in these areas to cooperate with the State and Federal Government in the rehabilitation programmes which will be streamlined and made more effective. As ever, I am ready to listen to grievances of my fellow Nigerians. I extend my hand of fellowship to them so that we can bring peace and build prosperity for our people.

No single cause can be identified to explain Nigerian’s poor economic performance over the years than the power situation. It is a national shame that an economy of 180 million generates only 4,000MW, and distributes even less. Continuous tinkering with the structures of power supply and distribution and close on $20b expanded since 1999 have only brought darkness, frustration, misery, and resignation among Nigerians. We will not allow this to go on. Careful studies are under way during this transition to identify the quickest, safest and most cost-effective way to bring light and relief to Nigerians.

Unemployment, notably youth un-employment features strongly in our Party’s Manifesto. We intend to attack the problem frontally through revival of agriculture, solid minerals mining as well as credits to small and medium size businesses to kick – start these enterprises. We shall quickly examine the best way to revive major industries and accelerate the revival and development of our railways, roads and general infrastructure.

Your Excellencies, My fellow Nigerians I can not recall when Nigeria enjoyed so much goodwill abroad as now. The messages I received from East and West, from powerful and small countries are indicative of international expectations on us. At home the newly elected government is basking in a reservoir of goodwill and high expectations. Nigeria therefore has a window of opportunity to fulfill our long – standing potential of pulling ourselves together and realizing our mission as a great nation.

Our situation somehow reminds one of a passage in Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar
There is a tide in the affairs of men which,
taken at the flood, leads on to fortune;
Omitted, all the voyage of their life,
Is bound in shallows and miseries.
We have an opportunity. Let us take it.

Thank you

Muhammadu Buhari
President Federal Republic of NIGERIA
and
Commander in-chief-of the Armed forces

Thugs Beat Daily Trust Reporter At Governor Al-Makura's Swearing In

The Nasarawa State correspondent of Daily Trust, Hir Joseph will be regretting ever stepping into the venue where Governor Al-Makura of Nasarawa State was sworn in today. Joseph who had earlier wrote that Al-Makura shouldn’t be sworn-in as the state governor was pounced on by some thugs believed to be working for the governor while the governor was taking his oath of office. It took the intervention of the police to rescue Joseph who had already been beaten badly by the thugs. Some of his colleagues who also questioned the thugs were also harassed. See a photo of Joseph lying helplessly on the floor after the cut.

Can Muhammadu Buhari Curb The Lavish Lifestyles Of Nigeria’s Political Elite?

Written by Remi Adekoya.

In a country where 62% of the population lives in extreme poverty, a Nigerian senator takes home roughly £1.1m every year in salary plus benefits. MPs must make do with £900,000. In comparison, David Cameron earns £142,500 as UK prime minister.

Nigeria’s lawmakers fly first class, lodge in the priciest rooms at the fanciest hotels and live in Beverly Hills-style mansions, all at the public’s expense. And they get away with this in a country where millions go to bed hungry. But Muhammadu Buhari, who has been officially sworn in as Nigeria’s head of state today after winning presidential elections in March, has vowed to lead a different, more modest kind of lifestyle and to cut down on what he terms “wastages”.

Buhari’s past behaviour lends credibility to his promises. Even though he was the military head of state from 1983-85 and has held several other top political positions, he is known for his ascetic lifestyle and incorruptibility. His personal home is a modest bungalow. After meeting Cameron at 10 Downing Street last week, Buhari reportedly flew home economy class, an event which made headlines in Nigeria due to its sheer novelty. He has also announced that his presidential convoy will obey traffic rules like everyone else, another first. If he continues in this fashion, Nigeria’s new president could play a huge role in changing public perceptions of how a political leader is expected to behave and how “power” should be wielded.

Buhari will not have an easy task convincing those around him about the necessity for modesty

The prestige of the presidential office is unparalleled in Nigeria, as are the perks. If Buhari pointedly refuses to take advantage of many of these benefits, he would be sending a strong message to citizens that politicians are by no means entitled to a life of luxury simply by virtue of their position. It would also help to delegitimise the outrageous earnings of parasitical politicians who act as if it is perfectly normal that they live lavishly at the expense of their mostly poor countrymen.

In Nigeria’s fiercely hierarchical and materialistic society, it is easy for top politicians to discredit criticism of their lifestyle from those below them on the social ladder: by simply implying that it stems from envy. It hardly helps that there have been numerous cases of members of civil society who used to lambast politicians’ earnings – only to be co-opted by the establishment and promptly reverse their views.

Buhari’s stance would resonate with people precisely because, as president, the Nigerian system offers him every opportunity to live like a king, something no head of state has yet been willing or able to resist. Nigerian society is unrelentingly hierarchical, so if people see that a president is capable of living modestly and not flaunting his power at ordinary citizens, they would start asking why a “mere” senator or MP cannot do likewise. More pressure could then be applied for their outlandish privileges to be slashed, especially now that the national budget is constrained by low oil prices.

But Buhari will not have an easy task convincing those around him about the necessity for modesty. Rotimi Amaechi, a former state governor and director-general of Buhari’s presidential campaign, said in a TV interview last year that four years’ work as a governor is equal to the work an “ordinary man” puts in over 25 years. When asked how he came about his calculations, Amaechi retorted: “How many times does the ordinary man have to work till 2 in the morning only to be up by 6am to resume his duties?” Such statements reveal what an uphill task Buhari will have trying to bring Nigeria’s political elite down from their high horses.

Political power has always been associated with unfettered access to public funds and lavish lifestyles in Nigeria. Many Nigerians still wrongly assume that if you get to the top of the political heap, this somehow entitles you to a generous portion of the country’s wealth. Buhari needs to work hard to disabuse Nigerian politicians as well as citizens of this absurd notion.

Woman Sues Facebook For Banning This Harmless Photo

ave a look at this photograph of a woman in the bath. Facebook have banned it from the social network on grounds of taste and decency. Now, hands-up if you though that the lady in question was baring a giant boob, or whether you gawped at what is clearly an elbow.

The magazine wrote on its Facebook page: “So, here’s last night’s FB alertness test results: FB moderators can’t tell an elbow from a dangerous, filthy, uncanny and violent female breast,” adding “‘No questions were asked and the post is down. Imagine our surprise.”

This test follows a series of protests over FB’s policy on photos of women breast-feeding their babies. For some reason, Facebook has banned mothers from posting photos of themselves feeding their kids. Of course, you can’t show boobies, but you can reportedly show ‘crushed heads, bloody accidents, limbs etc… as long as no insides are showing’.

Don't Just Probe Me, Probe Others Too-- Jonathan To Buhari

Outgoing President, Goodluck Jonathan while at the valedictory session of the Federal Executive Council which he presided over at the Presidential Villa in Abuja yesterday said he will not ask the incoming president not to probe him, but he should also probe past governments or else he will call it a witch-hunt. According to the president, so many things and governments, including state governors all deserved to be probed. He says past governments have placed Nigeria on a huge debt to the tune of $1bn and he wondered how they got there. He also spoke about oil wells, oil fields, marginal wells and others admitting they have not be allocated properly according to law. Continue...

“Some people are even calling for the probe of this government. I agree that in Nigeria, there are a number of things that we will probe; very many things. Even debts owed by states and this nation from 1960 up to this time. They are saying it is Jonathan’s administration that is owing all the debts.

“I believe that anybody calling for probe must ensure that these probes are extended beyond the Jonathan administration, otherwise to me, it will be a witch-hunt. If you are very sincere, then it is not just the Jonathan’s administration that should be probed.

“A number of things have gone wrong and we have done our best to fix them. The Attorney General is aware of the massive judgement debts, if we aggregate all of them, it is about $1bn. How did we come to this kind of huge judgement debts? These issues should be probed.

“How do you allocate our oil wells, oil fields, marginal wells and others? Do we follow our laws? All these should be probed. I believe all these and many more areas should be looked at,” he said.

Both Engines Of Singapore Airline Airbus Fails In Bad Weather

Passengers received a scare when a Singapore Airlines Airbus A330-300 dropped 13,000ft after both of its engines failed in mid-air on a recent flight.

As the  plane made an unexpected descent the pilots followed ‘operational procedures’ and managed to restore power to both Rolls-Royce Trent 772 engines, Singapore Airlines said in a statement.

Flight SQ836 was carrying 182 passengers and 12 crew members, when the jet engines lost power 3.5 hours into Saturday’s 5 hour flight.

The pilot said:

'Both engines experienced a temporary loss of power, although one engine returned to normal operations almost immediately.

'The pilots followed operational procedures to restore normal operation of the second engine by putting the aircraft into a controlled descent, before climbing again.

'The flight continued normally to Shanghai and touched down uneventfully at 10:56pm local time.

Singapore Airlines said no ‘anomalies’ were detected in either of the engines when they were 'thoroughly inspected and tested' upon arrival in Shanghai, and that it is investigating the incident with Rolls-Royce and Airbus.

Data from FlightRadar24.com and a report in the Aviation Herald revealed the plane was cruising at 39,000ft over the South China Sea, about 162 miles from Hong Kong, when it ran into trouble.

The plane dropped to 26,000ft before power was restored, and climbed back to 31,200ft before it made its normal descent and landed safely in Shanghai about one hour and 40 minutes later, the report said.

The plane later took off to return to Singapore after a two-hour delay, the Aviation Herald reported.

The Air Accident Investigation Bureau of Singapore said it has been informed and is taking the lead on the investigation.

Woman Stabs Son To Death On Children's Day

A young woman, Funmilayo Adeyanju, in a fit of anger hacked her three years old son to death on Children Day, throwing neighbours at the Ogunso area of Otta, Ado-Odo/Otta local government area of Ogun State into shock and mourning.

Adeyanju was said to have returned from somewhere and had barely rested for about 30minutes when she picked up a kitchen knife and attacked the boy.

She allegedly pinned her son called Emmanuel to ground and savagely stabbed him in the chest, abdomen, head and other parts of the body, leaving him to die in a pool of his blood around 4pm on Wednesday.

It is not yet clear what provoked the killing, but many people that are familiar with the circumstance of the mother and child, claimed it may not be unconnected with the trauma of the relationship between the woman and her biological father.

The Nation gathered that the boy is the product of the incestuous between Funmilayo and her father about four years ago.

The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who confirmed the incident, said policemen from Ota Division have arrested the woman while the remains of her slain child have been evacuated to the mortuary.

Adejobi said: “Policemen have been to the scene to recover the body of the child.

The woman has been acting strangely like a person who is of unsound mind. The police would carry out proper investigation.

“The police will work on the state of mind of the woman and we’ll have to seek the help of an expert to know her mental state.”

See The Governor-Elect Who Has Refused To Move Into 15b Government House

Governor-elect of Plateau state, Simon Lalong, Tuesday said he won’t be moving into the State’s government house.

Explaining why he won’t be moving in, the governor elect said that other than the place being uncompleted, he does not need such luxury to serve the people.

His words in part: “I am not going to occupy an uncompleted building as a government house.

In any case, I don’t need such a house to work for the people of Plateau State.

In serving Plateau people, I don’t need a luxury office.

I’d rather prefer people of the state live in luxury homes with all social services provided.

So, I don’t think a new government house is a priority of Plateau people. I don’t need such an office to serve my people.”

“I was told that new government house has cost over N15 billion and it is still uncompleted.

I can’t live in such an office when Plateau people have no water to drink, children are not going to school, civil servants are not paid, there is no medical care in rural areas and most villages have no roads.

So, I don’t need such capital-intensive government house.

Such a project amounts to a misapplication of scarce fund,” he said.

Is The Buhari Incoming Government Trying To Renegade On Their Promises Barely 24 Hours To Change?

If you buy a car that has been used and before you pay you are sure of the bad state of the car, do you complain after paying that the car has no fuel?
Why are the APC loyalist complaining of the bad state of the economy again? when that was what they told Nigerians before they were voted in.

There is no need to tell us about subsidy, debt or anything that is not working again, we are aware of all that before and we have been told Jonathan is clueless why try to paint us the picture we have seen before.

Less than 23hrs now it will be the Change that all Nigerians are looking for so stop complaining.
Its time we all come together and wait for the change.

We all expect a lot from this change, place in the comment box below what you expect and what you really think about the incoming administration.

Legalize Weed In The NBA-- John Sally

This past Weekend a vial suspected to contain Marijuana fell off the SUV of Kevin Durant as he was leaving a Los Angeles night club.

Kevin who is carrying a leg brace due to injury sustained from his last season game, was speaking to journalists when his SUV pulled over behind him and when his door swung open the vial that contains a marijuana with a prescription label fell off the car.

Well John Sally a 4 time NBA champ feels if Kevin Durant wants to smoke weed for medical reasons, he should be able to BLAZE UP without fear.

John is a HUGE proponent of medical marijuana in fact, he was rockin' a pro weed sweatshirt at LAX this weekend -- and explained why NBA teams should EMBRACE the ganja.

So, with this weekend ... Salley says the OKC Thunder should "buy a dispensary for him" to help the superstar heal from a foot injury.

FYI
weed is still outlawed by the NBA, but in a recent interview with GQ, Commissioner Adam Silver seemed pretty open minded about changing the policy.

Don't Abort Pregnancies Of Boko Haram Rape Victims -- Bishops

The Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria has condemned suggestions by some stakeholders in the country, who have advocated that the pregnancy of some Boko Haram female victims, conceived through rape, should be terminated.

Chairman of the Health Committee of CBCN and Auxiliary Bishop of Abuja (Catholic Archdiocese), Most Rev. Anselm Umoren, stated this during a press conference on Monday in Abuja.

He queried how Nigeria would accept to visit such innocent children “with capital  punishment” in the name of abortion for an offence they did not commit simply because their fathers were misguided religious and ideological bigots. Punch reports that the cleric said:

“Specifically, it is not tenable, the suggestion that killing the babies conceived through rape by the terrorists, is the most humane action to take in this instance.

Since the babies are ignorant and innocent of the crimes – aggression, sexual assault, dehumanization – against their mothers, it is unethical to punish them for the sins and offences of their erring fathers.”

The organisation however promised that when delivered, it would assist in the upbringing of the children through “support mechanisms” and “crisis pregnancy management centers.”

While expressing deep sorrow at the trauma endured by many Nigerians under the orgy of violence and terror by the Boko Haram sect, the CBCN said it opposed the “shallow arguments” being promoted by some individuals and groups, saying it meant repaying violence with an even more vicious violence.

The Bishops advised the victims to draw comfort from God, adding that the life of every baby is distinct, different and unique from that of their parents.

PILL Releases A Press Statement On The Travails Of Buruji Kashamu

The travails of Senator-elect Buruji Kashamu - being text of the press statement issued by the Public Interest Lawyers League. Read below...

The siege laid to the home of Buruji Kashamu by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the Nigeria Police is nearing its fourth day.

The facts leading to the siege are well too known that they don't bear repeating here. For the record, the Public Interest Lawyers League (PILL) frowns at the crude, gestapo-style manner that the NDLEA, Police and the AGF have conducted themselves since the news of the siege broke last Saturday morning.

The dictates and the demands of the law are not too onerous to be complied with by statutory agencies and persons charged with the responsibility of protecting its sanctity, rather than the recourse to might, power and the bullying tactics reminiscent of the military that Buruji Kashamu is today experiencing at the behest of the afore-mentioned statutory authorities.

That Buruji Kashamu is wanted in the United States of America for drug related charges doesn't make him any less a citizen of Nigeria that must be hounded and stripped of the fundamental liberties guaranteed by Sections 34, 35, 37 and 41 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,1999. Buruji Kashamu, whatever the substance of the criminal charge against him in the United States of America, is a Nigerian citizen and his rights must be defended against the totalizing power of the United States of America, the same way the United States of America consistently defended the likes of Dick Cheney who were fingered in the notorious Halliburton bribe scandal, acting through our own statutory agencies such as National Drug Law Enforcement Agency. If the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, through the AGF, has any extradition request from the United States of America, the proper thing the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency should do is to secure a warrant of arrest against Buruji Kashamu and institute extradition proceedings before the High Court of Justice. We are at pain as to finding the legal basis for the current siege laid by narcotics and security operatives to the home of Buruji Kashamu, contrary to Section 37 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999. The statement credited to the Attorney-General of the Federation, which is to the effect that the United States of America's request for extradition of Buruji Kashamu makes the ongoing siege to the home of Buruji Kashamu legal, is utterly ludicrous. Extradition request does not serve as a warrant of arrest!

We note, based on what is already discernible from the public media space, that the government of the United States of America attempted twice to secure the extradition of Buruji Kashamu from the United Kingdom and twice it failed. We ask: does the government of the United States of America have new, fresh and compelling evidence to establish basis for its renewed extradition request to the Nigerian government? If it does, why have our narcotics and security operatives adopted the bullying, gestapo-style tactics that suggest the sinister motive of attempts to kidnap Citizen Kashamu by any means other than legal? If there are new, fresh and compelling facts and evidence, let the Attorney-General of the Federation present them to the scrutiny of our laws and our court.

For us, we join other voices to condemn the actions of our narcotics and security operatives. Let it be known that we will join to defend the rights of Buruji Kashamu whenever and wherever extradition proceedings are instituted against him.
